~.Journal Feature.~ Inspiration and Discovery!Yep ^^ Just as promised. For awhile, I've been wanting to do this. So many people, my watchers especially, are growing in their talents, are hungry for improvement, and just love to be inspired by other people's amazing art. Many of you are undiscovered; others are working to be noticed, and others are simply lovers or connoisseurs of art, no matter the type.Today I'm going to feature a good number of the works of my amazing, amazing watchers If you see pieces you like, go give the artist a shout, fave and a comment or two! And, if you'd like to offer them some advice or critique, go ahead and give it to them. Everyone always has room for improvement! (And a premium membership isn't necessary to give someone advice!)Now keep this in mind, friends. Everyone has varying levels of skill, different interests, and different styles. Judge the pictures not just by quality, but by the idea, the vision, and the story behind the following deviations. Look at both the original art

Webcomic Tutorial!WELL. This ended up way longer than originally intended I split it up into sections a bit so that one doesn't have to read it all in one gulp and can just pick out things that concern you as in individual the most. I left out a lot of drawing aspects and things like "stop making so many wolf comics" but uh, yeah hopefully it'll help out some people!Colored Comics or Greyscale Comics?I think this is something you should be thinking of during the entire concept and development period of your comic. Should I be drawing this comic in color or greyscale? When youre trying to decide you should think about the following things:PRICE: If you plan on publishing, keep in mind that printing color is more expensive than printing greyscale. That means youll likely have to sink in more money to get the books published & your fans will have to pay more for a book. This is very serious to think about, would my fans pay extra for my comic simply because its in
Artist Intent vs Fan CriticismsThis has been a subject I've been interested in for years, and one which I personally struggle with on a near constant basis: Artist's intent versus fan criticisms. Before we begin I just want to make this clear that this journal is NOT about "ignoring criticisms" or any sort of endorsement of such an action. I'm gonna be accused of it, of course, but I just wanted to get that out of the way right now....As I've been observing fan interactions over the years I've noticed a severe increase in a sense of entitlement: IE: that if you love something enough you have a "right" to force the creators to change their content to suit your personal preferences. We saw this play out to the extremes this past summer with the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle, and we see it play out to a much lesser extent here on DA quite a bit.Artists need feedback and criticisms to grow and improve their work, but at what point does it move beyond offering suggestions to help an artist improve to outright de
Fundamentals of Trade in ArtTo begin, this is mainly as a shoutout to everyone who may have forgotten how to be caring kids back in kindergarten. however, this may help the rest of you who share your cookies with the rest of the class on a daily basis, also. This article outlines the basics of trading and selling art, since this is what DeviantArt's function is usually thought to be (in addition to showing off your awesome drawings). Now I don't claim to be a professional, but I observe many people (over 900, in fact) an to be blunt, I find things wrong with their systems.Which to start with; Commissions or trades?I think I'l go in order. To start off this article, I will start with Commissions. As the commissioner, it's your responsibility to:1. Be open for questions about what you commission.2. Be prompt with your payment and pay when and what you say you will.3. Don't hound the commissioned artist. It's not much to follow, but many people forget these things or chose to ignore them. Anyone can comm
Snappy journal :'DHahahahahahahaha~With the help of Gli7cH3dW0LF, I have created a most fabulous Snapdragon journal :'D Ain't it pretty?I really have no idea how to fix the big pink space at the top, but I'm happy with how the rest of it looks XD If someone could help me fix it, that'd be wonderful ^^ There's a big space between the header and the text box and I don't really know why...Font colors will also be changed, too. But the textbox background I don't really care about, it's just gonna have to overlap, haha Sorry guys, but this journal skin is for me to use and me only.Hope everyone thinks this looks pretty ~Tuesday
"Fave'ing and Running"Aw snap, I have an opinion again.I have seen people talk about 'fave'ing and running,' which, to me, is an odd thing to be upset about. Someone has favorited your art, which is the equivalent of a comment saying 'hey, I like this!' ...which for you, as an artist, is completely guilt-free! You don't have to reply to that. You've gotten a complement, and it requires no further work on your part. The alternate is that they DON'T favorite your art and DON'T comment (because they weren't going to comment anyway, right?), and you get nothing.I comment on art that I especially love, or want to critique, or that I have questions about (like technique, subject matter, et cetera) Sometimes? I just like your art and want to add it to a list of art that I want to look at later. There's nothing wrong with that, and I might have nothing else to say on the art other than 'I like this,' which is covered by me fave'ing it.If you rant at me about fave'ing and running, which is silly, it's likely that
